Founded by Hien Pham, the inspirations of Pho 88 came at the conclusion of the loss of Vietnam War. Hien’s mother, Nang Vo grew up in a little town in Khanh Hoa, Nha Trang and became a well known for her delicious grill cooking. She dreamed of having a restaurant one day, but she was only cooking for her family and friends.
After marriage, her husband, Nang taught her daughter to cook and be a wonderful wife. However, Nang’s husband and her family lost contact after the loss of Vietnam War. She raised her kids herself for over ten years hoping to see her husband, and those years she passed down all the wonderful grill recipes to Hien.
Nang and her husband were finally reunited, but she had to work hard to make a living in the United States just like anybody else. Her dreams of opening a restaurant died over time. In order to keep her mother recipes alive, Hien decided to open a restaurant to share her mother’s wonderful recipes and passion for cooking lives on once again.
